Question 1. How will you ensure residents’ voices are heard?
If elected, how do you plan to stay engaged with Shenandoah residents and neighborhood associations like MSNA? What steps will you take to remain accessible, transparent, and responsive to community concerns? Past commissioners have had very different approaches—how will you foster consistent communication and accountability? Would you commit to regularly attending MSNA’s monthly meetings or sending a representative from your office?
Response: I will be attending the monthly meetings or sending a representative to each meeting, I believe in open doors to any of the district 3 office or phone communication to all residents.
Question 2. Traffic Safety in Shenandoah
Speeding and reckless driving remain persistent concerns on Shenandoah’s residential streets, particularly around schools, parks, and the library. In 2018, the City of Miami paid for a comprehensive traffic calming study by Kimley-Horn, which identified more than 250 potential improvements. To date, only a handful of those recommendations have been implemented.
Will you commit to prioritizing and implementing the Shenandoah Traffic Calming Plan if elected? What specific steps would you take to ensure these improvements move forward and make our streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers?
Response: I have seen reckless and speedy driving, and it is a complicated matter, we depend on the county to add speed bump, circles by any intersection, or any extra stop sign, as a city commissioner I can work with residents to help mitigate as far as a commissioner resource I can have.
Question 3. How will you support public safety in our neighborhood?
Please share your approach to keeping Shenandoah safe. How would you collaborate with law enforcement and the community to address crime prevention, emergency response, and neighborhood concerns?
Response: Keep close communication with the Commander Abreu and the Shenandoah police team, providing them with the resources they need to have the right amount of Police Officers for Shenandoah, and I want to add a Police sub-station in one of our parks for them to be more close and accessible to all neighbors, we need to create an emergency response plan to protect all residents specialty all seniors, handicap, or families with children or teenager to be safe, we need to attack all the drug activities in all vacant properties.
Question 4. What is your vision for improving city services in Shenandoah?
Many residents face issues with trash/recycling collection and obtaining permits for routine maintenance like trimming trees. How would you work to improve the consistency and quality of city services in our neighborhood?
Response: I will coordinate with solid waste department to attend to all monthly meeting so residents can express their concerns, also all residents can visit the district office locate at 1300 SW 12 Ave with any concerns including permits, or any other issues they may have from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Question 5. How would you support beautification?
Shenandoah residents consistently express a desire for more tree canopy and neighborhood greening. What are your plans to support tree planting and increase our urban canopy as part of your vision for neighborhood beautification?
Response: I understand the residents’ concerns, I have walk and speak with more than 2,000 houses and there are a mixed feeling with trees that the city is planting in the swell in front of houses without the owners consent, many are happy to have the correct tree planted by their houses, but they had a terrible consequences when the wrong species is been planted. As a city we need to have the right species for swell areas that will grow without damaging any sidewalk, fences, plumbing, house walls, and foundation of any structure including our street. We need to make sure we plant trees or palm trees, including the owner’s approval. Also, the distance between trees needs respected for proper canopy grow without blocking any streetlight so our street are properly illuminated.
Question 6. Will you support recreational programming at City parks for all ages?
Will you continue to support these types of initiatives—and expand access to youth programs such as after-school activities, summer camps, and mentorship opportunities—to help keep children, families, and seniors active, healthy, and connected through sports and enrichment?
Response: Of course, we need to keep and expand more programs according to all ages, and we need to get everyone involved with several sports or activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Question 7. Resiliency & Flooding:
Shenandoah, like many neighborhoods in Miami, is vulnerable to flooding and other climate-related challenges. What strategies or initiatives would you support to improve neighborhood resiliency and address stormwater management or flooding concerns?
Response: I understand that all streets need to repaved, repaired and water drainages system must be cleaned, but Miami Dade Water and Sewer is the only department that is authorized to work on those systems, so I will collaborate in getting the funds and expedite permit to get it done ASAP. I am already speaking with various state representatives to coordinate and allocate some extra $$ to be able to keep repairing or replacing the rest of the streets in Shenandoah that have not been replaced in District 3.
Question 8. Zoning & Development:
What is your position on zoning changes or development proposals that may affect the character and affordability of our neighborhood? For example, Agenda Item PZ-7 permitting the construction of a second, smaller residential unit (Ancillary Dwelling Unit, ADU) on single-family (T3-R) properties.
Response: The approval for the ancillary dwelling unit for Homestead property sponsor by Commissioner King we’re already approved by the current commission. Therefore, it is up to the individual owners to determine if they want to build or legalize any structure in the rear of their property.
Question 9. Closing Question – Why You?
Why should Shenandoah residents vote for you? What sets you apart as the best candidate to represent and serve this community?
Response: Many of you know me, I have always been part of Shenandoah. Even after I sold my house and moved to Little Havana, I still engaged with many of you and continue to attend the association meetings for years. I care about our district and city. If God willing and I am blessed with the opportunity to represent District 3, I will make myself available to any resident who wishes to speak with me and have staff that will serve every resident’s needs. I will implement an open-doors policy in our offices to make sure we listen to resident’s concerns, or ideas to keep Shenandoah safe and beautiful.
