The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is launching a new roadway project along SR 972/Coral Way, covering the stretch between SW 22 Avenue and SW 17 Avenue and from SW 12 Avenue to Brickell Avenue. This Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation (RRR) project aims to enhance pedestrian and driver safety, improve traffic flow, and increase the corridor’s long-term durability.
Planned Improvements Include:
Upgrading pedestrian signals, curb ramps, and sidewalks
Enhancing traffic signals and stormwater drainage systems
Repaving and restriping for smoother travel
Improving lighting with energy-efficient LED technology
Reconstructing parking lanes and widening sidewalks in key areas
The project also includes efforts to improve visibility, replace missing signage, and remove outdated driveways to support safer and more accessible mobility.

In April 2025, FDOT began road work at the intersection of US-1 & SW 17 Ave starting with improvements including resurfacing, upgraded lighting, and wider turn lanes. Expect nightly lane closures (8pm - 6AM) during the seven-month project. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained. For more information, visit the project website.
New Roundabout Project on Coral Way: In 2023, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) completed construction of a new modern roundabout at the intersection of Coral Way and SW 15th Road. The project, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, began in October 2022 and concluded ahead of schedule in June 2023. Improvements include new crosswalks, upgraded lighting, and drainage enhancements.
Project No. 20200251 (Miami-Dade Commission District 5)
The project consists in the Median Modification along SW 22nd Avenue including clearing and grubbing; milling and resurfacing to incorporated buffered bicycle lanes, improve traffic separators; repair damaged sidewalks; new pavement markings and signage installation; regrading and sodding, as well as any ancillary items associated with the project scope of work. The project consisted in the Median Modification along SW 22nd Avenue, including clearing and grubbing; removing existing curb and gutters and sidewalks; installation of new curb and gutter; pavement restoration; pavement markings installation; regrading and sodding, as well as any
ancillary items associated with the project scope of work. Construction was completed in December, 2021.

In 2018, the City of Miami retained Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to assess traffic conditions within the Shenandoah neighborhood to determine appropriate traffic calming improvements to enhance the quality of life of neighborhood residents. This report, completed in December 2018, presents input from the neighborhood stakeholders (residents and community leaders) and City of Miami staff, field observations, traffic volume data, vehicle speed data, an analysis of existing traffic conditions including livability, speed, and cut-through analyses, phased improvement plans, and planning level cost estimates for the proposed improvements.
